This course, normally in two parts, can be combined into a five day course, giving a significant cost saving.
Level 1 (Introduction) Course
The EAL Industrial Electrical Systems training course has been designed especially for multi-skilled industrial engineers. The course is ideally suited for those skilled in other trades i.e. mechanical maintenance engineers or persons assisting skilled electrical staff who require knowledge of industrial electrical systems or equipment. On completion delegates may proceed to our advanced course: EAL Industrial Electrical Systems Part 2.
This course includes the following modules:
1. Electrical theory (Ohms Law; voltage, current, resistance & power).
2. Installation characteristics (mains distribution, protection against electric shock, types of electrical faults, circuit protection, earthing, operation ofRCD’s, power transformers).
3. Cables and Accessories (types of cable and application, glands, isolation and isolators, enclosures, IP ratings, industrial plugs & sockets).
4. Control Devices (push buttons and switches, contactors and relays, electronic timers, solenoids, introduction to plc hardware components).
5. Drawings and schematics (general layout, recognising symbols, association of graphic symbols with hardware components).
6. AC Motors and Motor Controls (power and control of: direct on-line motors, star-delta motors, AC motor components & testing, soft starters, overview of inverter drives).
7. Basic Testing (Fault finding on electrical systems, fault finding and testing AC motors.
8. The Electricity at Work Act and electrical regulations (overview).
Level 2 (Advanced) Course
The Advanced Industrial Electrical Systems training course has been designed especially for multi-skilled industrial engineers. This course is ideally suited to skilled electrical maintenance engineers with experience of industrial electrical systems and machines, as well as those working with or assisting skilled technical staff. IES Part 2 is an ideal progression for those who have successfully completed IES Part 1.
This course includes the following modules:
1. Electrical Systems and Equipment (Definitions, system assessment and specification).
2. Selection of Equipment (load assessment cable sizing & calculation, system functionality, assessment of control devices, estimating PLC input/output requirements).
3. Drawings and Documentation (association of system hardware components and drawings/documents).
4. Machine Risk Assessment (overview of European Machine Directive as associated with safety gate and emergency stop systems).
5. Variable Speed Drives (selecting and programming the VSD for the application).
6. The Programmable Logic Controller (general layout, Input/output requirements, reading the control ladder diagram).
7. The Operator Panel (HMI) (general requirements, how the HMI integrates with the PLC).
8. System Integration and Operation (considers how the individual components integrate to provide a functioning system).
